There is no single rate card for scaffolding, and any supplier who quotes you a firm price without asking questions is guessing. Here is what the number is actually built from.
The four cost drivers
- Quantity of material. The layout determines how many verticals, ledgers, braces, jacks and jali sheets you need. This is the largest single component.
- Duration. Material is rented by the month for most jobs. A three-month job costs roughly three times a one-month job in material rent — but only one transport charge each way and one erection charge.
- Transport. Charged per load, each way. Distance matters less than the number of trips.
- Erection and dismantling. Labour to put it up and take it down. Priced on the complexity and height, not just the quantity.
A worked example
Take a typical three-floor independent house in Bengaluru — roughly 2,400 sq ft of exterior wall to be plastered and painted, scaffolding needed for about six weeks.
| Line item | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Material rent | Cuplock verticals, ledgers, braces, jacks and jali for the full perimeter, two months (six weeks rounds up) |
| Transport | Two loads out, two loads back |
| Erection | Crew for two to three days, founding, bracing, tying and decking |
| Dismantling | Crew for one to two days, plus loading |
| Deposit | Refundable against the material, returned on clean handback |
For small jobs — a ladder, a mobile tower, one elevation for a few days — the whole thing is usually quoted as a single package quoted as a single negotiable package price.
Where people overspend
- Renting a heavier system than the work needs. A painter does not need slab-support material.
- Scaffolding the whole building at once when the work moves elevation by elevation. Phasing costs an extra erection visit but can halve the material on rent.
- Letting the structure stand idle. Rent runs whether or not anyone is working. Line up your trades before the material arrives.
- Not counting at handback. Do the count with the supplier's driver present, both at delivery and at return.
The cheapest quote is not always the cheapest job. Material in poor condition, a crew that leaves out braces, or a supplier who cannot come back to modify mid-project all cost more than they save.
Getting an accurate number
Send us the height, the length of wall or the slab area, what work is being done and roughly how long you need it. That is normally enough for a same-day quote with the material, transport and labour listed separately so you can compare it properly.
